What is the NFPA?
The NFPA is a non-profit organization founded in 1896 to develop a global standard of fire and electrical codes that would reduce injuries, deaths, and property damage from fire and electrical hazards. It’s more than 300 codes and standards are used worldwide by electricians, firefighters, health care professionals, manufacturers, and other service providers. In addition, the NFPA standard has been adopted as a matter of law in modern building and fire safety codes in Monroe County, Columbia County, and throughout the Hudson Valley region and New York state that are Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).

NFPA 211: Standard Code for Chimneys, Venting, and Solid Fuel Heating Appliances
The NFPA 211-2019 is the standard code for chimneys, venting, and solid-fueled heating appliances, such as pellet stoves and wood-burning fireplaces. Our Certified Chimney Sweep® follows these guidelines when designing, inspecting, maintaining, or installing a chimney, venting system, and solid fuel appliances. The NFPA 211 is also the code that specifies the three chimney inspection levels. It now also covers installing decorative shrouds for manufactured chimneys.
NFPA 54-2021: Standard Code for Gas-Burning Heating Appliances
When working on a gas-burning heating appliance, piping, and equipment, NFPA 54 (National Fuel Gas Code)/ANSI Z223.1 is the standard code that our certified chimney professionals follow. This code covers gas fuels, including natural gas, and liquified petroleum (LP-Gas and LP-Gas-air)
National Electric Code®
